Cannabinoid Quantitation in Plants and Beyond: Liquids, Oils, Vape Cartridges and Edibles

Available On Demand

Geared to highlight the challenges of this testing for public crime labs, law enforcement agencies and attorneys, attendees will learn the following:

  • The impact of the federal Hemp Farming Act of 2018 and evolving state regulations, which has increased demand for cannabinoid quantitation.
  • Complexity of developing testing for different matrices to analytically determine the concentration and weight of delta-9-THC in evidentiary items such as botanicals as well as other sample types that are increasingly being used as carriers for cannabinoids.
  • Expanded capabilities offered by NMS Labs to report beyond total delta-9-THC to include the potency of other cannabinoid compounds including delta-8-THC, THCA and total THC, as well as CBD.

Is it Hemp or Marijuana? Deciphering the Science and the Law

Available On Demand

Geared for members of the law enforcement community, attendees will discover the following at this event:

  • How the adoption of H.R. 5485 – Hemp Farming Act of 2018 legalized industrial hemp that has THC concentration of no more than 0.3% by removing it from Schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act, but delegating the regulation of this to state legislatures as they enact their own legislation on marijuana.
  • In response to recent legislative changes, state and local crime labs are being asked to provide a validated quantitative test against tight statute of limitation timeframes, and with already stretched resources
  • To address the growing need to differentiate a sample, NMS Labs now offers a newly validated Hemp/Marijuana THC Differentiation in Botanicals test for attorneys and law enforcement.  Learn specifically about testing methodologies, acceptable sample types, and the chain of custody requirements which NMS Labs follows.

Safety Advisory

Potential Vape Pen Fire Hazard

June 2020

To ensure the safety of personnel and evidence, NMS Labs is implementing changes regarding the storage and submission of vape pens and e-cigarette devices. These devices can pose a risk of fire hazard or explosion, which can cause injury and/or property damage when stored or handled incorrectly. Our internal Quality Assurance department, Safety Director and laboratory staff have advised of the safety concerns if these devices are not properly secured prior to submitting to the laboratory. NMS Labs requires the following:

  • Removal of cartridges from electronic devices when possible, so only the cartridges are submitted
  • Batteries be removed from electronic devices prior to submission. If the batteries cannot be removed, ensure that the device is secured in the “OFF” position
